Decagon Gallery invites photographers worldwide to submit work for PLACES AND SPACES, an online exhibition exploring the environments we inhabit, pass through, or imagine. From sweeping landscapes to quiet corners, from bustling streets to solitary rooms, this show seeks to highlight the ways spaces shape us—and how we, in turn, shape them.

Decode Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming theme: Black and White. Black and white photography is a powerful and timeless medium. It’s how photography began; it’s the deep unending shades of grey. We look forward to seeing through your lens in grayscale.

ACCEPTANCE

At least 26 images will be selected by the juror for exhibition at Decode Gallery. The gallery handles all printing for accepted photographers for free, we print professionally on an Epson printer with Ilford Pearl paper. We will only print one exhibition print, after the show the print will be archived in a flat file for 2 years. We feature museum quality 22”x 22” inch white frames. We have many standard precut white mats: (a) 11” x 11” (b) 10” x 15” (c) 11” x 15” (d) 12” x 15″, and more. We will adjust the digitally submitted final hi-res images size (never crop) for best presentation in the mats.

If the photographer has selected to list the exhibition print for sale and someone inquires, the photographer will be notified immediately. All rights to the image file and print remain with the photographer. Decode Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, 50% goes to the photographer.

Photographers will be notified by email of acceptance within two weeks after the submission deadline. High Resolution JPGS will be due two days after the acceptance email. Gallery opening will be on July 12th.

Internships will be available in areas such as Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Art & Design, Sales, Managing/Production Editorial, Production, Publishing Operations, Subrights, Creative Services, and Author Events.

Interns will work no more than 40 hours per week. Internships start on June 2nd, 2025 and will continue through August 22nd, 2025. If needed, there may be some flexibility in regards to the duration of the internship. This internship has an hourly rate of $16.50/hour.

Intern Project

All interns will participate in our sixth annual summer intern project. In teams of 6-9, interns will be asked to develop a cohesive plan and presentation in response to an assigned publishing-related topic or issue facing the business today. Interns will attend workshops hosted by internal employees to help inform their projects, as well as to delve deeper into the field. Teams will also work closely with their assigned employee mentor to guide their project and provide insightful feedback as the project progresses. At the conclusion of the internship, each team will present their project to a panel of judges. Please note that the intern project will kick off during the second week of the program (June 9) and the final presentations will take place during the first two weeks of August

The Macmillan summer internship program is available to candidates who have graduated high school, are over the age of 18, are eligible to work in the U.S. and aspire to pursue a career in the publishing industry. Desert Botanical Garden Internship

Description

To assist Garden Researchers’ research taxonomic treatments by providing scientific illustrations using fresh and herbarium specimens, in addition to scientific publications.

This intern position will build competency in botany, herbarium best practices and botanical illustration, with a focus on succulent species. Use of compound microscope, understanding botanical terminology, attention to detail, and proficiency in pen and ink are required. In addition, optional field work opportunities are available.

Essential Duties

Assist the Research Botanists to:

  • Conduct fieldwork within and outside Garden to acquire plant material and familiarity with species 

  • Create scientific plates of selected taxa, under their supervision, with a focus on succulents, ex., Yucca

  • Engage with other scientific illustrators in the community

  • Produce high quality digital renderings of final products

  • Participate in regular meetings with Research Scientists

  • Portfolio of recent art work including pen and ink

  • High quality pen and ink illustration skills

  • Ability to observe and ask questions and modify techniques as needed

  • Marketing, editing, and creating persuasive content on digital platforms
